The Gift and Wonder of the Word

Heart & Soul receives the first ever completed Twampa Bibles

How does God demonstrate His love for us? How do we demonstrate love for another person? When my parents met each other for the fist time, there was mutual interest to pursue a relationship and so they decided to give each other permission to write letters to each other. Through letters they developed their love, their friendship, and their relationship.  That eventually led to them pledging their love and their lives to each other in marriage.  But it started with letters.  Words written to each other.  In those letters they shared their hearts, their dreams, their love.

When I met my wife Amy, I knew I had to talk to her again.  I could not stop thinking about our first interactions.  When I reached out to her, I decided to write to her through social media.  I know!  It does not sound nearly as romantic as Letters :). But it’s what I had to work with.   So I nervously wrote, and potentially rewrote the message I wanted to send to her.  She received it, welcomed it, and so began our relationship that led to marriage.   So thankful for words exchanged.

It’s interesting that the way that God has chosen to reveal His love for us is through words!  He wrote an amazing love letter to you and all our fellow human beings.  In it He writes why He created us, writes about what our purpose in life is, and He tells us and shows us that He is committed, sacrificially to loving us, even giving His only Son so we could be in relationship with Him.

So anytime, there are people anywhere in the world, that are able to discover and have this love letter from God in their own language, it’s a precious and holy moment.  We had such a moment this past Sunday at Heart and Soul Community Church.   We had just received brand new complete Old and New Testament Bibles in the Twampa language of the Uduk people.  The Uduk tribe is a people from Southern Sudan.  They have been ravaged by war, having to flee their country, refugee camps, and many of them are distributed throughout the United Sates.   They had never had a complete Bible in their own language until now.  We celebrated this moment in a special way.   There was a beautiful song sung by the Uduk families in our congregation.   A special presentation and prayer over these Bibles, these Love letters from God to the Uduk people.  And then we presented the Bibles to each family.  It was a holy and special moment.  God loves the Uduk people!  And now they will be able to read God’s letter to them in their own language.  Perhaps many souls will read those words, fall in love with The Living God, give their hearts to Jesus, and enter into eternity with Him forever.

God we thank You for allowing us to witness this special moment.  Thank You for writing Words of love to us.  Thank You for Your Word.  For the Uduk people, for the nations and islands of the world.   We remember Your words:

‘Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. ‘
